I got turned onto this place by Elmomonster...I absolutely love it. The chicken catilage was awesome (not to say everything else wasnt as good!) The menu is a challenge b/c it has so many things that sound great

Great post as always Professor! It's always good to hear another perspective on a place where I am a regular. I've enjoyed reading all the other dishes I have yet to try in both yours and MealCentric's blog posts.

Hey guys,

If you liked the cartilage "nankotsu" at Honda Ya, you should try the even better version at Shin Sen Gumi's izakaya(Fountain Valley). They do not use the "keel" from the breastbone as Honda Ya does, which is a bit too hard, not as much fun to chew on as the cartilage from the knees or ankles or wherever (I don't really wanna know) :P

Hey, who wants to do an izakaya taste off in OC?

Great write up. Honda Ya is like the Japanese version of a Jewish Deli. Open late, tons of items on the menu, and low prices.
