Sprinkles Cupcakes was first introduced to me a few weeks ago by an over zealous new fan of the tempting treats. I was curious at first about "How good could a cupcake be?" And when he mentioned "Red velvet cake" my mind shot back thirty years ago when my best friend had her sweet sixteenth birthday party. Red Velvet with cream cheese frosting? Oh My! memory of cake lodged in my brain and a couple of weeks later at a weak moment I looked up the address, drove to CDM and was somewhat tickled as to the line out the door. I almost felt inadequate buying only one little cupcake after being in line that long. I was asked if I wanted it for here or to go? Really now? I don't need an audience...so It came in a pink waxed bag, and I went to my car and tore into my temptation and have to say there was alot of sugar in the top heavy frosting, but none of it went to waste.
I'm glad I satiated that craving. If I ever have another one of those jonesin attacks, I think I'll try the coconut!

Good piece. I like your commentary. I wrote one about Sprinkles on Valentine's Day. I saw the Martha piece and it irked me for 2 days. Please click over (and scroll down)...

Shocking as it seems we were treated to some of the CUPCAKES at a friends after dinner last Sat. YUCK! We were expecting the Cupcake Nirvana and instead experienced what happens when you let your 5 yr old bake for the first time?
This reminds me of the Krispy Kreme (scam). Althought I admit if your in the line and the little donuts come off hot they're not bad? But when you leave and they cool off they are similar to tasteless cardboard with a ton of sugar.

The allure of cupcakes continues to amaze me. It is always the simple things that most wouldn't consider that winds up making big bucks. I'll guess I'll have to continue to make my own at thoe prices.
