About this site
The internet has been very, very good to me. This blog started late in 2004 as a place to post random thoughts about the food scene in Southern California. Through it, I’ve met and broken bread with a great community of fellow bloggers from Southern California. The Los Angeles Times has twice selected this blog as one of the more noteworthy in our region. Thank you, L.A. Times.
Other barbecuing bloggers asked me to join the Four Q BBQ team (”Where the Blog Meets the Hog“) and we’ve placed (even won) in every contest we entered in our rookie year. The team continues to learn and improve in competition as we gain experience.
The OC Weekly’s Gustavo Arellano gave me my start as a freelance food writer based on a review of local ramen restaurants posted on this blog. As a food writer, I’ve contributed to the L.A. Times, and Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine. Currently, I write for the National Barbecue Assocation’s Q Magazine, and also take freelance work where I can.
I write willy nilly about whatever food obsession is on my mind at the time, ranging from our local farmer’s markets, old time Colorado butchers, to an ongoing old school bagel baking project. While this site started with many anonymous local restaurant reviews, these days I’m posting broader interest food writing. I’m all about learning from experts, and try to pass on that information to you.
Thank you, internet, for keeping me company all these years.
